Sens4ME

The project develops an affordable easy to use solution for video and reminiscence based motivational physical training of elderly citizens that supports a continuity of care services from professional care organizations to autonomy at home. The system can be operated independently by the elderly and used for motivation and monitoring of various types of physical activity – including indoor active E-sport cycling and outdoor walking.

The Sens4ME system – in the form of a physical activity sensor, active E-sport app, and web-based career services – will be available through direct online sales to private users, retail shops selling rehabilitation or amateur sports products and medical devices distributors. Peer reviewed publications and articles, conferences & exhibitions will be the main channels of dissemination for the clinical markets while private buyers, being the elderly themselves, friends and family, will be reached through website, social media, blogs, newsletter, direct marketing, PR and articles as well as exercise and sporting events.

Objectives:

Physical training is instrumental in hospital outpatient rehabilitation, and daily exercise increasing the chance of a longer life with a higher quality of life. However, daily training and exercise can be difficult to realize for the elderly who are often associated with a physically inactive lifestyle. The purpose of the Sens4ME project is to provide an ICT based system to advise, motivate and increase options to exercise for elderly citizens, improving the health care outcome in the continuity of care between professional care organizations, such as hospitals and physiotherapist clinics, and patients at home.

Expected Results and Impact:

Sens4ME offers, as no currently available solution, the opportunity to plan physical activity based interventions for rehabilitation and preventive health purposes that spans a continuity of care services from professional care organizations to autonomy at home. Age-related loss of muscle mass and physical frailty of elderly people are often associated with a physically inactive lifestyle. The Sens4ME solution will strengthen older people physical capabilities, enabling them to live more active and independent lives. Hence, the solution has high market potential, addressing this important socio-economic challenge.
