The AAL Programme is a common R&D&I Funding activity of 22 Partner States with financial support from the EC, with objective to foster innovative ICT-based solutions to improve the quality of life of older adults, i.e. innovative products, systems and/or services addressing identified wishes and needs of primary, secondary or tertiary end-users.
The Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme has already launched six Calls for proposals:
• 2008: “ICT-based Solutions for Prevention and Management of Chronic Conditions of Elderly People”
• 2009“ICT-based Solutions for Advancement of Social Interaction of Elderly People”
• 2010: “ICT-based Solutions for Advancement of Older Persons’ Independence and Participation in the Self-serve Society”
• 2011: “ICT-based Solutions for Advancement of Older Persons’ Mobility”
• 2012: “ICT-based Solutions for (Self-)Management of Daily Life Activities of Older Adults at Home“
• 2013: “ICT-based Solutions for Supporting Occupation in Life of Older Adults”
• 2014: “Care for the future”
AAL Programme started to implement a challenge-led approach to future calls in 2014. The process enables new products and services to be developed based on major societal needs, market demands and economic challenges. The Content Working Group for AAL-2015 has identified the following 3 AAL priority challenges:
• Age-friendly environments outside of the home
• Living well with age-related diseases & multi-morbidity
• Independent living at home
The AAL Programme invites stakeholders and members of the AAL community to have their say and share their expertise in these fields to support the choice for the challenge that will be addressed in the AAL Call 2015.
If you address one or more of the potential challenges listed above please cover the following issues regarding a potential Call AAL-2015:
• The relevance of the problem to be solved to the AAL objectives?
• The opportunity for the use of ICT to enhance quality of life?
• The market potential of the challenge?
• Does the challenge address significant unmet needs/wishes where solutions are not already available?
• What is the size of the market opportunity that solutions to this challenge might open up?
• Is it clear that meeting the need is of high importance / high value?
• Are products or services likely to result from the challenge and reach the market in the AAL time-frames?
• Is it appropriate that AAL should address this challenge?
Your input and suggestions may be used in the subsequent call definition process and will be integral to the further development of the AAL Programme.
