Workshop System Evaluation Group Ambient Assisted Living

The AAL JP was invited at the workshop system evaluation group organized jointly by the IEC and CENELEC.
CENELEC is the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization and is responsible for standardization in the electro technical engineering field. CENELEC prepares voluntary standards, which help facilitate trade between countries, create new markets, cut compliance costs and support the development of a Single European Market. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization, founded in 1906. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the world’s leading organization that prepares and publishes International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.
The main target of the event was the exchange of information between the European Ambient Assisted Living research projects and the standardization activities in IEC and CENELEC. Integrating standardisation within research and development projects creates awareness in the standardisation community of innovative R&D findings with respect to AAL. The objective of the System Evaluation Group on AAL is to manage and coordinate AAL standardization work in and outside of IEC, to establish and achieve interoperability and interconnectivity of AAL systems, and accessible design of their user interface.
The event was opened by Thomas Sentko, chair of IEC SEG AAL, while Ms. Ulrike Haltrich of IEC introduced the IEC activities around AAL in their area of work (audio, video and multimedia systems and equipment) and presented TC 100′s objectives and strategy: to enrich human life and contribute to society. Karina Marcus, Director of the AAL JP Central Management Unit, presented the achievements of the programme as well as the support action on standards and interoperability carried out by the AAL JP, which organised two workshops with AAL JP project participants. AAL JP projects were presented at this event (CaMeLi, NavMem, EasyReach) along with other related projects like ReAAL.
