A tale from the future: inspiring talks at the Forum 2014
The Bucharest Forum is about to bring together once again the big AAL community in Europe for an exciting event. Broader, bigger, better: AAL solutions for Europe is the title of this edition, with a clear intention to investigate and share with our public what the ICT for ageing is now able to offer both to end users and the economy.
The programme of the Forum envisages four tracks:
- Track A – Deployment of AAL solutions
- Track B – Broadening AAL
- Track C – Supporting projects to market
- Track D – Innovation
As a natural continuation of the latter track, the plenary session on 11 September 2014 at 9:00 AM, will address the topic of disruptive innovation. David Bott, is the inspiring speaker who will drive the audience to unfold the “epidemiology of innovation” as he calls it.
Plenary session 11 September: the epidemiology of innovation
Innovation is widely cited as a requirement for growth, but no-one ever seems satisfied with how much innovation we have. Direct support can be effective but is currently at a scale that does not deliver the required growth. What we need is a new way to look at, and support, innovation, and how it spreads within a business community. There are many parallels with the spread of a disease – the susceptibility of the community, the speed and vigour of the carrier and the effectiveness of the treatment (which in this case would be bad!). What can we learn by using this metaphor?
Who is David Bott?
After 26 years with BP, Courtaulds and ICI, spent in both their corporate centres and business units, David moved into start-ups 10 years ago, but was then diverted into 7 years setting up and directing the programmes of the Technology Strategy Board, the UK’s innovation agency. He is now a non-executive Chairman of Flute Office and Oxford Biomaterials, a non-executive director of Oxford Advanced Surfaces, a Principal Fellow of WMG at Warwick University and has engaged in a wide variety of activities involving materials, design, sustainability and innovation.
