Last week, the previous Kith & Kin project team has been awarded the first prize in a challenge organised by the Dutch Alzheimer Foundation for the category ‘solutions in the market’. This bi-annual challenge called for solutions based on artificial intelligence, which improve the quality of life and independence of people with dementia and could reduce the workload for professionals, relatives and caretakers.
The AAL project now can be found as a solution called 123family providing a form of a simple video calling application aimed to serve people with dementia. The app allows you to make video calls super easy, even if someone doesn’t have digital skills or suffers from forgetfulness or dementia. The app includes automatic pick-up function for people in further stages of dementia. This function ensures that someone with dementia does not have to pick up the phone when it rings; the caller can connect remotely.
The video is in Dutch, but subtitles in English are available.

As of now, the 123family-app can be downloaded for free in the Google Play Store. The app is available for any device using Android.
