And the winner is…
An intergenerational platform for sharing stories won the 2017 edition of the Droidcon Hackathon
Shory is a platform for sharing stories and answering questions, specifically focused on sharing information that younger generations want to learn from older generations, for example, ‘what sort of clothes did people wear in the seventies?’ All of the stories can be shared by audio recording, video, text and using photos; the interface is extremely user-friendly, and the stories and users are all searchable by location. After 36 hours of very intense work, this was the solution that won the Droidcon Hackathon 2017 in Turin.
The AAL Programme sponsored this challenge led event, which was organised for the Android coders’ community. The main theme of the contest was: “Older adults’ occupation after retirement – build a solution to keep the elderlies active and productive through learning, training and knowledge transfer to younger generations.” The winning team was awarded a free participation at the AAL Forum 2017, which will take place in Coimbra between 2 and 4 October.
BACKGROUND
Droidcon is a global developer conference series and a network focusing on the best of Android. The idea behind droidcon is to support the Android platform and create a global network for developers and companies. The first two droidcon conferences were organised by an international team of Android enthusiasts in Berlin and London in 2009. Since then this community driven conference format has spread around the globe rapidly. The conferences offer high class talks from different parts of the Android ecosystem, including core development, embedded solutions, augmented reality, business solutions and games.
THE GLOBAL DROIDCON NETWORK
The global droidcon network is still growing. In the long term, droidcon as a community and event series will spread further around the globe, especially in South America, Asia and Africa. In 2016 twenty-seven editions of Droidcon are organized allover the world.
ABOUT DROIDCON ITALY
The whole event is divided into a Conference, Barcamps, and ad Hackathon. Other satellite events will be expected (workshops, b2b matching, networking events, etc). Droidcon Italy 2017 is the fourth edition of Italian Droidcon. A Call for Papers is open for speakers to submit their proposal. All attendees will have chance to follow talks, events, workshops and keynotes and meet developers from all over the world.
