Submitted proposals in AAL Call 2017: preliminary outcomes!
The AAL Call 2017 entitled “AAL packages/integrated solutions: Packages integrating different solutions based on ICT to support active, healthy and independent living of older adults,” closed on May 24th, 2017
This challenge focused on turning impressive ideas into AAL projects that can provide practical, integrated solutions to challenges in people’s everyday lives. It is recognised that there is a need to provide end-users with products that are personal, useful and take the entire life span into consideration.
45 proposals were received from the call with a total available funding of €26,104,496.00, from 14 AAL partner states. Several fields of research are going to be investigated by these proposals, revealing an exciting new phase in AAL’s development.
Future AAL projects will be closely focused on social interaction; navigation; innovative elderly care; robotics in support of dementia; and game based rehabilitation. There is a submitted proposal on robotics supporting dementia, for instance, which aims to enhance the quality of life of seniors with mild neurocognitive impairments by stimulating the cognitive and physical activity through music, pictures and physical exercises; to evoke positive moods and emotions and to support social interactions.
Another consortium submitted a proposal aiming to help older adults’ navigation. This latter focuses on mobility and social engagement, addressing user needs and integrating technological components of three previously funded AAL projects with some already existing two commercial services. With the additional contribution of new mechanisms. The project will assist its users in their everyday needs through crowdsourcing. More specifically, it will allow its users to securely wander around the town through a service that informs their caretakers in case something happens to them, help them find community services or job offerings, organize their shopping list and find the products and services they are looking for close to their location at fair prices.
Some interesting statistics from the initial statistical report show that the Netherlands is the country with the largest number of partners in submitted proposals and the highest number of participating SMEs. Switzerland, on the other hand, had the largest number of universities involved in the submitted proposals out of the 14 partner states. Overall, SME’s were the largest type of organisation to have participated in the AAL Call 2017.
Results of the 2017 Call will be communicated directly to the participants mid-October, after approval of the official ranking list by the AAL General Assembly.
A more detailed report will be published in December 2017 on the AAL Programme website.
